St. George RoadRunners News Release

ST. GEORGE - The RoadRunners trailed by two heading into the bottom of the eighth against Chico on Wednesday night. Two extra-base hits from Cody Nowlin and Brad Netzel capped a three-run scoring spurt and pushed St. George to a series-sweeping 7-6 victory over the Outlaws at Bruce Hurst Field.

St. George improved its GBL-best record to 10-3 and finished their first homestand winning seven of nine. The Outlaws dropped to 8-5.

In the eighth inning, Juan Serrano and Nowlin slugged back-to-back doubles off Chico reliever Jesse Oster while A.J. Valentine drew a walk. Henry Calderon tried to bunt Nowlin over, but a force at third erased the lead runner. After a fly ball out, Netzle walked to the plate and delivered a line drive triple off Ben Shockey (L, 0-1) to right-center scoring Valentine and Calderon.

Bartolome Fortunato allowed a hit in the ninth, but got a strike out and caught stealing double play to end the game and notch save number two. Eude Brito, who threw just one pitch to end the Outlaw eighth, earned his second win in relief.

Two RoadRunners left the game with apparent injuries. Starter Eric Van Slyke took a comebacker off his pitching hand and left after 4.2 innings. Outfielder Alexis Gomez also left the game after four innings after straining a muscle. Gomez is listed as day-to-day heading into the Canadian roadtrip.

The RoadRunners have Thursday off to travel to Edmonton. A three-game weekend series begins Friday night at 8:05pm Mountain.

St. George is expected to start Monte Mansfield in the series opener.

The RoadRunners Radio Network will have coverage of every game in Canada beginning Friday at 7:45pm Mountain with John Potter for the Infowest RoadRunners Pre-Game Show live from Telus Field in Edmonton .
