Tucson Toros Sell Contract of RHP Andrew Romo to the San Francisco Giants

San Ramon, CA. June 3, 2009 - The Golden Baseball League announced today that the Tucson Toros have sold the contract of RHP Andrew Romo to the San Francisco Giants. The hard-throwing righty from Brawley, CA had an outstanding 3 inning appearance for Tucson in his first appearance of the 2009 season after coming over from the Yuma Scorpions and was immediately acquired by the Giants.

Romo, 20, had an outstanding high school career, but went undrafted. He pitched in the instructional Arizona Winter League, under Dodger All-Star Mike Marshall, in February of this year and developed into one of the top pitchers. This is the same league that produced current San Francisco Giants big league reliever Sergio Romo (Andrew's brother) and Toronto Blue Jays starter Scott Richmond in 2007. Signed by the Yuma Scorpions out of the Arizona Winter League, Romo was set to start before being sent to the Tucson Toros. In Tucson, the Toros wasted no time in showcasing Romo and brought him into last night's game in relief. He pitching three innings as he struck out four and gave up only one run that was unearned. With the Giants scouting the game, they moved quickly and acquired the young pitcher at the end of the contest.

Romo is the is the 9th Golden Baseball League player in 2009 to be acquired by a major league organization.
