Victoria, BC - The Victoria Seals are proud to announce that right-handed pitcher Chris Bodishbaugh has been signed by the Chicago White Sox. He is the fourth player to be signed out of the Seals organization, and will join the Sox minor league system next spring.
Bodishbaugh, the native of Walnut Creek, California, is set to make is second appearance in affiliated baseball after being Selected by the Florida Marlins in 48th Round of the 2005 MLB amateur entry draft. The San Jose State University graduate appeared in a career-high 40 games for the Seals this season, finishing fifth overall in the Golden Baseball League with a 3.30 earned runs average. In his fourth year as a professional, Bodishbaugh posted a 1-3 record through 71.0 innings pitched, while collecting 65 strikeouts (more than any other Seals reliever in 2010) and picking up one save.
"We couldn't be more proud of Chris after an excellent season on the mound," said Seals President Darren Parker. "He is a true athlete with all of the skills necessary to compete at a higher level, and it is fantastic to see Chris get this opportunity with the White Sox."
Prior to joining the Seals, Bodishbaugh spent two seasons in the Marlins system, playing a combined 23 games between the Jamestown Jammers of the New York-Penn State League (A-) and the Greensboro Grasshoppers of the South Atlantic League (A). In two seasons with Victoria, the former high school football star has paved his way into the club's history books, currently sitting second in innings pitched (147.2), batters faced (706), and strikeouts (125).
Bodishbaugh becomes the 15th Golden Baseball League player acquired by a Major League Baseball organization this year, joining Austin Bibens-Dirkx (CHC), Isaac Hess (BOS), and Sergio Pedroza (LAD) as the fourth player signed out of the Seals organization in the past two seasons. The signing marks the 114th time a Golden Baseball League player has advanced to an affiliated contract since the league's inception in 2005.
