
Vipers Reacquire Gary Payton II

EDINBURG, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers, NBA G League Affiliate of the Houston Rockets, announced today that the team has reacquired point guard Gary Payton II.
Payton ll (6-3, 195) was previously on a 10-day contract with the Washington Wizards. With the Wizards, Payton II appeared in three games averaging 3.7 points and 1.3 assists per 5.3 minutes of play. Payton II best performance with the Wizards was on January 29 at Cleveland where he tallied 11 points, four assists and three steals in 12 minutes of competition.
While at Washington, Payton II was assigned to their NBA G League affiliate, Capital City Go-Go, where he appeared in two games. In his first game with the Go-Go, he played 37 minutes, tallying a double-double with 25 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and two steals against the Grand Rapids Drive. Payton II totaled 40 minutes of action for the Go-Go in the second appearance and tallied 17 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and four steals which gave him back-to-back double-doubles.
Prior to the Wizards, Payton II appeared and started in 13 games for the Vipers, averaging 19.2 points per game. He achieved a season-high of 31 points on January 18, his most recent game with RGV, when they faced Memphis Hustle at Bert Ogden Arena. Generous on offense, Payton ll averaged 6.5 assists per game to go along with 8.2 rebounds and 3.3 steals in 33 minutes per contest. In addition, Payton II shot 45% from the floor.
Over his two-year NBA career with the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers, Payton II has appeared in 29 games (six starts) and has averaged 3.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists.
