ERIE, PA - The Erie BayHawks (17-13), NBA G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club, took down the Salt Lake City Stars (16-17), 104-98, tonight inside Erie Insurance Arena.
Fresh off of his second career triple-double, Terrence Jones poured in a game-high 29 points on 10-19 (.526) shooting from the floor, including a 3-5 (.600) clip from three-point territory, eight rebounds, five assists, one steal and one block in 30.1 minutes as a reserve. Jones recorded 24 of his 29 points in the second half.
Newly added guard Jaylen Morris finished with 22 points on 9-13 (.692) shooting, a 2-3 (.667) mark from deep, a team-high nine rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block in 36.3 minutes. The BayHawks held advantages in points in the paint (50-48), second chance points (24-14) and fast break points (9-4).
The short-handed Stars were led by Deonte Burton's team-high 27 points. In addition to his 27 points, Burton registered three rebounds and a team-high eight assists in 41.4 minutes. Quinton DeCosey notched 12 points on 5-7 (.714) shooting and two rebounds in 29.4 minutes, coming off of the bench. Isaac Haas pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, to go along with eight points, one steal and one block in 23.5 minutes.
The first quarter was evenly matched, as the Stars outscored Erie by only three points, 25-22. Salt Lake City extended its lead to double-digits off of a Mareik Isom triple with 4:05 left to play in the opening half. Heading into halftime, the Stars held a 17-point, 59-42, lead.
Erie held Salt Lake City to only 17 points in the third frame, while scoring 25. After three quarters of play, the BayHawks trailed by nine, 76-67. Erie got within three points of Salt Lake City, 79-76, off of a Terrence Jones free throw with 9:29 left to play in regulation. Jordan Sibert and Jones buried back-to-back triples to give the BayHawks a 91-87 lead at the 3:12 mark of the fourth quarter. Behind 62 second half points, Erie secured a 104-98 victory.
The BayHawks will finish their six-game homestand on Tuesday against the Greensboro Swarm. Tipoff for Tuesday is set for 11 a.m., as part of Erie's annual School Kids Jam contest. Tickets for Tuesday can be found online at eriebayhawks.com or at the Erie Insurance Arena box office.
