Vipers Defenseman Jerofejevs Named UHL Player of the Week

ROANOKE, VA - The United Hockey League (UHL) announced today that Roanoke Valley Vipers defenseman Alex Jerofejevs has been selected as the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 13, 2005.

Jerofejevs, a native of Riga, Latvia, scored eight points over four games last week for the Vipers. The 21-year-old rookie, who has enjoyed success so far this season against the Elmira Jackals, had three assists in Wednesday's game against the Jackals. Jerofejevs had two goals and an assist on Sunday, giving him his second three-point game in five days, both coming against Elmira. Jerofejevs contributed two assists on Saturday in the Vipers' shootout loss to the Adirondack Frostbite.

"We are certainly proud of Alex," said Vipers Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Jim Wiley. "He has been working extremely hard, and he deserves this honor."

Jerofejevs is now tied for fourth place among UHL defensemen with nine points (3 goals, 6 assists), and is tied for eighth in scoring among all UHL rookies.

The Vipers hit the road next weekend for a pair of games in Michigan on Friday and Saturday, November 18th and 19th. Roanoke will face the Kalamazoo Wings on Friday and the Port Huron Flags on Saturday, with the puck dropping at 7:30p.m. for each game.
