Victory stops two-game Mississippi losing streak

EVANSVILLE, IN --- Goaltender Alexander Pechurskiy made 25 saves to help the Mississippi RiverKings defeat the Evansville IceMen 3-1 Saturday night in Central Hockey League action at Evansville. Mississippi moved to 6-8-0 for the season and stopped a two-game losing streak. The IceMen fell to 7-6-1 with the loss.

Evansville took a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes on Brian Bicek's seventh goal of the season. But the RiverKings dominated play in the second period, outshooting the IceMen by a 20-8 margin and took a 2-1 lead into the locker room after forty minutes. The RiverKings' 20 shots were a team season-high for one period.

Nathan Lutz scored on the power play at 8:26 to tie the game, then Dane Marshall poked a loose puck into the net for the eventual game-winning goal at 13:22. Both goals were assisted by Jeff Christian and Chris Richards.

Neither team scored in the third period, until Louis Dumont provided an empty-net goal with 29 seconds remaining for the final score.

Mississippi out shot the iceMen 31-26 for the game. Pechurskiy raised his record to 2-2-0 with the effort between the piped, while Matt Lundin (6-3-1) took the loss in net for Evansville with a 28-save performance.

Mississippi was 1-for-8 on the power play and stopped all six Evansville chances.

The RiverKings continue their three-game road trip Wednesday night in Wichita, then spend Thanksgiving in Tulsa against the Oilers before coming home November 27th to meet the Laredo Bucks in a 7:05 matchup at the DeSoto Civic Center.
