Bucks Come Up Short in 4-3 Loss

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 4-3 Saturday night at Laredo Energy Arena. The Bucks extended their franchise high losing streak to six games as they fall to 4-8-2 (nine points) on the season.

Mudbugs (12-4, 24 points) captain Brett Smith scored two power-play goals as Bossier scored four straight goals to erase a 2-0 first period deficit.

The Bucks jumped out in front of the Mudbugs for the third time this season as they took a 2-0 lead after the first period.

Laredo struck for a power-play goal just 1:52 into the game when Jeff Hazelwood hammered in a rebound from the right circle to pick up his third tally of the season. Two of Hazelwood's three goals have come against the Mudbugs.

The Bucks (2-5-1 at home) increased their lead to 2-0 with 5:42 left in the first when Daniel Koger scored from the slot to pick up his team-leading 10th goal of the campaign. The goal was Koger's first since November 5th.

The Mudbugs outshot the Bucks 9-7 in the first period as they lost their fourth straight home game.

Bossier came out firing on all cylinders in the second period as they scored three goals to take a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes of play.

The Mudbugs cut the Bucks lead to 2-1 just 40 seconds into the second period when Simon Mangos scored his first of the season on a rifle slap shot from the slot.

Jeff Martens tied the game at 2-2 at the 6:47 mark when he scored from between the hash marks to get his sixth goal of the season.

The Mudbugs would take a 3-2 lead with just 2:38 in the period when Smith banged in a rebound on the power-play from the bottom of the right circle. The tally was Smith's eighth of the season.

The Mudbugs outshot the Bucks 22-6 in the second period.

Smith scored his second power-play goal of the night to make it 4-2 Mudbugs with 7:07 left in the third period.

Jeff Bes cut brought the Bucks to within 4-3 with just 1:08 left in the game when he scored from the right circle with Laredo having an empty net. The goal was Bes' third of the season to bring him to within one point of 600 in his CHL career.

The Bucks had a chance to tie the game with less than 10 seconds left in the game but were stopped on two shots in the closing moments as the Mudbugs hung on for the win.

Brian Foster improved to 6-1-1 on the season and 3-0 against the Bucks as he stopped 21 of 24 shots he faced.

Pier Pelletier set aside 30 of 34 shots to suffer the hard luck loss for the Bucks.

Laredo was outshot 34-24 in the game.
