Quad City Mallards News Release
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - David Brown made 39 saves and Eric Giosa's third period goal proved to be the game winner as the Quad City Mallards defeated the host Bloomington PrairieThunder 3-2 Saturday night.
The Mallards were already on top when Giosa walked in alone to roof a backhander and stretch the Quad City lead to 3-1 10:16 of the third.
Giosa's goal proved all the more vital when, after Bloomington pulled goaltender Marco Emond for an extra attacker, Jason Dale tipped the puck in to cut the margin to 3-2 with1:34 left in regulation. Bloomington then pressured for a late equalizer, but Brown and the Mallards survived the ensuing onslaught.
Earlier in the night it was the Mallards who jumped on Bloomington for a pair of first period goals. Zac Pearson tipped in Shane Lovdahl's blue line blast to give the Mallards a 1-0 lead at 12:47 of the first. Quad City was on the power play when Obi Aduba buried a rebound to double the lead with just 1:31 left in the period.
Jason Deleurme's wrist shot from the high slot cut the Mallard lead to 2-1 at 5:36 of the second period, but Brown stepped to the fore by making 22 second period saves and the PrairieThunder got no closer.
