Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
LAREDO, TX - Brett Smith scored twice as the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs rallied from two goals down for the second straight night to defeat the Laredo Bucks 4-3 Saturday night at the Laredo Energy Arena. The âBugs have now won five consecutive games heading into next week's set of five games in six days.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first period, the âBugs took control of the game in the second with three goals and a 22-6 shot advantage. Justin Aikins and Steven Crampton each chipped in two assists, while Jeff Martens and Simon Mangos netted the other two Mudbugs goals.
Laredo jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first behind Jeff Hazelwood's powerplay goal early in the period and Daniel Koger's even-strength tally later on at 14:18. The âBugs missed on two powerplays in the first and trailed by a pair going into the second.
Bossier-Shreveport roared ahead in the second frame with a 22-shot barrage on goaltender Pier Pelletier. Simon Mangos scored from the high slot just 40 seconds into the period to get the âBugs on the board and Martens followed at 6:47 to tie the game at two. Later in the period a great passing play with Aikins and Crampton led to Smith's go-ahead goal, which made it 3-2 at 17:22.
Smith potted his second powerplay tally of the night mid-way through the third; burying another Aikins pass from just inside the blueline to extend the lead to 4-2. Jeff Bes drew the Bucks back within one with 1:08 to play as Laredo pulled the goaltender for the extra attacker, but the Bucks failed to get the equalizer in their sixth straight loss.
Brian Foster stopped 21 shots while improving to 6-1 this year, while Pier Pelletier stopped 30 shots in the loss. Bossier-Shreveport outshot Laredo 34-24 and converted on 2 of 5 powerplay chances. Laredo was 1 for 2 with the man-advantage.
The Mudbugs will now return home to face the Missouri Mavericks Tuesday at 6:35 pm as our 2010 food drive benefitting the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana continues.
Mini-plans and group ticket packages for all home games are available now through the Mudbugs office at 752-BUGS. Individual tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster at 318-741-9700, online at www.ticketmaster.com or at the CenturyTel Center main box office.
