Victoria WHL Franchise to Participate in 2011 WHL Bantam Draft

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Western Hockey League (WHL) franchise remind fans that the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft takes place tomorrow with the club making its first ever selection.

The bantam draft takes begins tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. PDT in Calgary, AB and will be broadcast live on www.whl.ca. In the first round of the draft, Victoria will select its first ever bantam player with the 12th overall pick at approximately 9:15 a.m.

The draft consists of 15 rounds with each of the 22 member teams receiving one pick per round. The Victoria WHL team owns 14 picks in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft at this juncture including four in the first three rounds at #12, #34, #55 and #56 (from a trade with Brandon). The team will also select in the following positions; #67 (from a trade with Calgary), #100, #122, #144, #176 (from a trade with Saskatoon), #188, #210, #232, #298 and #320.

The WHL Bantam Draft is an annual outing, in which the Club's of the Western Hockey League select players who have graduated from bantam. The draft's order of selection depends on where the team finishes in the League standings. The Club's that miss the playoffs are placed into a lottery for the 1st round only. After the 1st round, the Club's select in order from fewest to most regular season points.

During the bantam draft, players from the four Western Provinces and the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming are eligible to be selected. For the 2011 bantam draft, players born in 1996 may be selected.
