
Joe Sakic Inducted into Swift Current Broncos Hall of Fame

Swift Current, SK - The Host Committee of the 2011 Swift Current Broncos Hall of Fame Ceremony is pleased to announce the induction of the legendary #19 Joe Sakic.
This year's induction supper is scheduled for Saturday, August 6, 2011 at the Credit Union i-Plex.
Sakic played with the Broncos from 1986 to 1988. He scored an incredible 293 points over 132 Western Hockey League games. He was honoured as the CHL Player of the Year (1988), WHL Player of the Year (1987, 1988) and Rookie of the Year (1987). Sakic also represented the Broncos at the World Junior Hockey Championships and was drafted by Quebec in the first round of the 1987 NHL Entry Draft.
The Burnaby, BC native went on to have an incredible 21 year National Hockey League career with the Quebec Nordiques and Colorado Avalanche. His 1641 regular season points ranks 8th all-time and his 188 playoff points ranks 7th all time in NHL history.
Sakic is a two-time Stanley Cup Champion (1996, 2001), Conn Smyth Trophy Winner (1996), Hart Memorial Trophy Winner (2001), Lester B. Pearson Award Winner (2001) and three-time NHL First Team All-Star (2001, 2002, 2004).
He also had a distinguished international career that included leading Canada to a gold medal at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City. Sakic starred in the deciding game with 4 points against the United-States. He also helped Canada to gold medals at the 1988 World Junior Championships, 1994 World Championships and 2004 World Cup.
Sakic is now an Executive Advisor and Alternate Governor with the Avalanche.
He met his wife Debbie while playing in Swift Current and they have gone on to have three children. His charity work is estimated to have provided more than 7 million meals to poor children and families. It earned him an NHL Foundation Player Award in 2007.
Tickets for Season Ticket Holders will go on sale May 16, 2011 at 9AM. They have until May 19, 2011 at 5PM to purchase their tickets for the event. General public can then get their tickets on May 24, 2011 at 9AM.
