Swift Current Broncos News Release

Swift Current, SK - The Western Hockey League named the Swift Current Broncos the Scholastic Team of the Year at the 2011 WHL Awards Luncheon which was held in Calgary, AB today. The Scholastic Team of the Year Award recognizes the team that achieved the highest overall academic performance during the 2010-11 regular season.

This is the first time the 25 year old franchise has won the notable award.

"It's a great honour", states Bronco General Manager and Head Coach, Mark Lamb. "Hockey's a team game and winning a team award is very special. This award recognizes that a lot of people are doing a lot of great things on and off the ice, including Colleen MacBean (Education Advisor), Darren Evjen (Bronco Assistant Coach), Larry Kielo (Team Champlain) and of course the players themselves."

"It's a great accomplishment for our organization and our partnership with Athabasca University, the Swift Current Comprehensive High School and Great Plains College", says Bronco Assistant Coach, Darren Evjen. "To be named the best team in the league, academically speaking is an impressive achievement for our players and is something that they should be very proud of."
