Rocky Mountain Vibes News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. After eight innings the Rocky Mountain Vibes fell to the Ogden Raptors, 8-3, on Wednesday.
Kevin Dickey got the start for Rocky Mountain, facing off with Jake Mulholland of the Raptors.
Like many of the Vibes' recent games the scoring started off slow.
Jacob Barfield drove in Brandon Crosby on a sacrifice fly to give Rocky Mountain a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
After that it was all Raptors. Ogden slowly built on the lead that they acquired in the top of the third.
The main issue for the Vibes was walks. In total, Rocky Mountain would allow seven free passes in this shortened game. Six of those walks would come around to score.
The Vibes did show some signs of life down the stretch. Casey Petersen drilled a line drive home run in the bottom of the fifth to narrow the score, 5-2.
Unfortunately it wasn't enough as Ogden tallied back to back three-run innings in the top of the fifth and sixth creating a deficit that was so big to surmount.
Kevin Dickey would be pulled in the top of the fifth with a line reading 4.2 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 5 BB, 0 SO.
Both Dutch Landis and Zach Ottinger would pitch in relief for the Vibes. Ottinger impressed in his UCHealth Park debut pitching two scoreless innings with two strikeouts and only allowing one runner on base. That performance would earn Ottinger the Whataburger player of the game.
With one out in the bottom of the eighth the decision was made to go into a lightning delay. Just minutes later a massive rain spell would lead to the game being done for the night. The contest would also be ruled as final with Rocky Mountain falling 8-3.
The Vibes are back in action tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. when they take on the Raptors for the third and final game of the series.
