Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Amarillo, TX 2/5/08 - The Amarillo Gorillas and the Central Hockey League announced today that Amarillo forward Bill Vandermeer's six point effort against the New Mexico Scorpions on January 26th, has been selected as the CHL Performance of the Week for the week of January 21st. Vandermeer's selection comes just one day after he was selected as the CHL Player of the Week, and is the first Performance of the Week award for the Gorillas this season. In the 7-2 win over New Mexico, Vandermeer set a career high with six points, registering three goals and three assists in the contest.
Vandermeer's six point effort matched a CHL season high, done just three other times this season, and also matched a Gorillas franchise record. Vandermeer won the weekly award which is voted on by fans who can cast their vote on www.centralhockeyleague.com. His performance garnered 47% of the overall vote, receiving 680 of the 1429 total votes cast.
The Caroline, Alberta native now has 44 points on the season with 19 goals and 25 assists, and has registered 13 points in the last four games. With the playoffs now clearly in sight, Vandermeer and the Gorillas will set out to make it five wins in a row as they take on the Wichita Thunder this Friday night (Feb 8th) at the Kansas Coliseum.
