
Hounds Beat Brahmas 4-1 On Kids Day

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds upended the Texas Brahmas 4-1 on Tuesday at the third annual "Kids Day" game at the Chevrolet Centre. Youngstown is now 26-14-2 (54 points) and owns second place in the Northeast Division and third place in the Northern Conference.
Mark Odut started the day off right for Youngstown as he scored his third goal of the year at 1:38 of the first period to make it 1-0. Jeff Genovy recorded the assist for his first point as a Hound. Combined with the 24 games he played in Laredo he now has six assists and 10 points on the season.
In the second period Petr Pohl scored an unassisted, shorthanded goal at 4:22 to make it 2-0 Youngstown. It is Pohl's 17th goal of the season. He also has a team best five shorthanded goals as the Hounds now have tied Laredo for a league best 12 shorthanded goals for the year. Anders Strome tried to bring the Brahmas back as he scored his team leading 22nd goal of the year at 15:06 to make it a 2-1 game after two periods.
The Hounds pulled away in the third period as Steve Birnstill scored his fifth goal of the season at 2:58 to make it 3-1. Kirill Starkov capped off the scoring with his 10th of the season at 13:09 to put the Hounds up 4-1 to end the game. Starkov has scored a goal in three straight games. Eric Przepiorka had two assists on the day as he has recorded at least two points per game in his last four outings. Andy Franck made 35 saves on 36 shots to win his fourth straight start and five of his last six. He is now 17-7-1 on the season.
The Hounds have now won four straight games and are in possession of second place in the Northeast Division and third in the Northern Conference playoff picture. The Hounds will play the Brahmas again on Wednesday night from the Chevrolet Centre with face-off scheduled for 7:05. All SteelHounds games are available on ESPN Radio 1240 and SteelHounds.com.
