Rage Lose Finale of Road Trip, 4-2
February 5, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Tulsa - The Rocky Mountain Rage concluded their longest road trip of the season with a 4-2 loss to the Tulsa Oilers at the Tulsa Convention Center.
Rocky Mountain built a 2-0 lead in the first period. David Morelli opened the scoring with an unassisted tally, roofing home his own rebound at 9:10. Scott Wray then made it a 2-0 game with a long-range blast that glanced off the catching glove of former Rocky Mountain goaltender Guy St. Vincent at 12:27. While St. Vincent did not face many quality chances throughout the final two periods, he made no more mistakes and was perfect the rest of the way.
The story of the second period was Rage netminder Terry Dunbar and the team's penalty killers in front of him. Tulsa skated on four consecutive power plays during the frame, finally converting on the fourth when David Beauregard jammed in his own rebound at 18:28. Otherwise, Dunbar was perfect as he helped preserve a 2-1 Rocky Mountain lead heading to the third.
Tulsa tied the game early in the final period when Kai Magnussen scored off a wrap-around at 3:28 to square things at two. It appeared the two clubs would eventually head to overtime as the game clock crept under three minutes left in regulation. But on an innocent looking play in their own end, the Rage coughed up the puck to the Oilers' Brendon Hodge. He then fed Jeff Christian, who floated one past a screened Dunbar for the sudden game-winner at 17:17. Rocky Mountain pulled Dunbar for the extra attacker, which led to an empty-net goal from Beauregard at 18:52 for the final 4-2 score.
The Rage ended up going 2-4-1 on their seven-game, five-city trek and dropped to 29-9-4 overall. Their 62 points lead the Northwest Division by nine points over the idle Colorado Eagles.
Rocky Mountain now returns home to Broomfield Event Center for the first time since Jan. 22. The club will look to extend a team-record six-game home-winning streak this Friday, Feb. 8, against the Arizona Sundogs before hosting the Odessa Jackalopes on Saturday, Feb. 9. Face-off for both games is 7:05 p.m.
Single-game tickets for the remainder of the 2007-08 regular season are available with prices ranging from $18 - $43 per seat (parking included).
