Amarillo's Vandermeer Nets Six Points, Voted Performance Of The Week

February 5, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release


The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that Amarillo's Bill Vandermeer has earned the honor of being voted by fans of the CHL the Performance of the Week for the week of January 21st. The Caroline, Alberta native scored six points (3-3=6) in the Gorillas 7-2 victory over the New Mexico Scorpions on January 26th. This is the second honor this week for the second-year Gorilla who on Monday was named the Oakley CHL Player of the Week.

Vandermeer garnered 680 votes (47%) beating Bossier-Shreveport goaltender John DeCaro by 171 votes. Over 1400 fans voted in this week's poll. Vandermeer's six-point night will be automatically considered for the 2007-08 CHL Performance of the Year which will be announced in April, 2008.

Vandermeer has 19 goals and 25 assists on the season for 44 points. He has been a catalyst for Amarillo who is just one point behind Corpus Christi for the fifth and final Southern Conference playoff spot. Amarillo has won four straight games.

Amarillo's nine-goal outburst in 9-5 road victory at Odessa on Jan. 29

Laredo's five goal comeback after falling behind 4-0 in first period of 5-4 OT win versus Mississippi on Feb. 1

OKC scoring three unanswered third period goals to defeat Colorado 5-4 on Feb. 1

Sebastien Thinel (ODE) scoring two goals including GW OT goal in 4-3 victory over Arizona on Feb. 2. The goals made Thinel the Jacks all-time leading goal scorer with 131 career goals.

Corpus Christi scoring twice in the final four minutes of a 3-2 victory over RMR on Feb. 1
