Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

TROIS-RIVIERES, QC, CANADA - After crossing the border successfully for the first time in club history, the Tri-City ValleyCats (29-30, 14-8) ended a three-game losing skid with an offensive explosion against Atlantic Division rival Equipe Quebec (27-32, 7-12). The 'Cats set a season-high in hits and tied their 2021 high mark for runs with a 13-7 win in their Canadian debut at Stade Quillorama.

Looking to shake off a weekend road series sweep at the hands of the Washington Wild Things, the 'Cats put up runs in the first five innings of the series opener and went deep a season-high five times, beginning with a solo home run for Willy Garcia. Nelson Molina would give the visitors a lead they would never relinquish with an RBI single in the top of the second, while the offensive flood gates came loose in the middle innings. Tri-City weathered a Quebec comeback attempt by scoring nine runs in innings 3-5, with Garcia sending in his second long ball of the night and Denis Phipps going yard in the third, while Andres Sosa hit his second homer of the year in the fifth.

Nine of 10 'Cats who played garnered a hit, while eight logged multi-hit games and six multi-RBI games in the best team offensive performance of the year. Right-hander Parker Kelly (6-4) got run support behind him to earn the win in five innings, giving up seven runs on as many hits and striking out one. Daniel Kruezer, Fransisco Jimenez, and Trey Cochran-Gill each followed with scoreless relief outings, while Quebec's Nick Horvath (1-5) took the loss in three innings. Garcia became the fifth different Tri-City player to log a multi-homer game on the year, while Brad Zunica steadied the squad with three hits, including a two-run shot in the eighth to add insurance.

Tri-City will look to earn the mid-week series victory and continue offensive success against Equipe Quebec this season on Wednesday, August 4 at 7:00 PM. The 'Cats will return to Joseph L. Bruno Stadium to host the Sussex County Miners this coming weekend. First pitch on Friday, August 6 is set for 7:00 PM. Click Here for tickets.
