Slammers Fall Short in Game One against Lake Erie

JOLIET, IL - After a day's break, the home stand continued with game one of three against the Lake Erie Crushers. Joliet sent lefty Logan Lyle to the hill. The Slammers, having a two game losing streak going into tonight's game, hoped to bring home a big win. However, a win fell just out of reach as the Slammers were held to four runs giving Lake Erie the 7-4 win.

Joliet would kick things off with a bang, scoring two runs in their first appearance at the plate. Scott Holzwasser would come home on a wild pitch during Patrick Causa's at bat. Causa would advance to first on a dropped third strike, and Braxton Davison would score off the dropped third strike giving the Slammers a 2-0 lead.

Lake Erie didn't hesitate to respond, putting up two runs in the top of the second leveling the score. An RBI Double by Javier Betancourt would score Connor Oliver. Then, Steve Passatempo would hit an RBI single scoring Betancourt to tie up the score at 2-2

The fourth inning would see the score remain tied as both teams scored one run each. Lake Erie's Steve Passatempo would hit a solo homer to give the Crushers a 3-1 lead going into the bottom half of the inning. Jordan Rathbone would respond for the Slammers hitting his first home run of his Slammers carrer. Rathbone's solo shot would tie the game up 3-3.

The top of the fifth would see the Crushers put up two more runs for the lead. Karl Ellison hit a two run long ball scoring Trevor Achenbach cross the plate putting the tally to 5-3. Joliet would respond with one run in their half of the inning, shrinking the gap to one run. Terry Daniels would hit a long ball to the rooftop terrace. This would be Daniels' first homer in a Slammers uniform. The score slimmed to 5-4.

With one out in the top of the sixth, the Slammers would call to the bullpen. Right hander Brad VanAsdlen would take the hill relieving Logan Lyle. The lefty would face off against 27 Crushers before his time on the mound came to an end.

The top of the sixth would see Lake Erie score two runs giving them a 7-4 lead over the Slammers. Steve Passatempo would hit home run number two of the night for a solo long ball. The Crushers would put another homer on the board with a bomb from Steven Kraft.

The Slammers bullpen would send Chandler Brierley to the mound in the top of the eighth inning, relieving VanAsdlen after 1.2 innings on the bump. VanAsdlen would face only 9 batters.

Joliet would come up short as Lake Erie held onto their lead that was gained in the sixth. Tonight's loss would see the Slammers down one game with two to go against the Crushers. The loss also sees the season record for the Slammers sit at 21-39.
