Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
AUGUSTA, NJ - The Tri-City ValleyCats (2-2) traveled to Skylands Stadium on Tuesday for their first road game of the young 2023 campaign. Fresh off of an Opening Weekend series win against the Trois-Rivieres Aigles, the 'Cats were set to commence a mid-week three-game set with the Sussex County Miners (3-1), who returned to Augusta after taking a series from the Joliet Slammers.
2022 Pioneer League Pitcher of the Year Elijah Gill (0-1) got the ball for the 'Cats in his Frontier League and ValleyCats debut. The southpaw got off to a slow start, allowing two runs in the bottom of the first before settling in. Gill would take the loss, but turned in a solid outing. Although Gill would only toss 4 innings, he would strike out 8, the most by any 2023 ValleyCats pitcher to date. Relievers Aaron Ernst and Andrew Edwards would both allow one earned run each in Tuesday's contest.
The ValleyCats were held to just six hits in the series opener, with the lone run crossing the plate on a solo home run by ValleyCats shortstop, and former Miner, Cito Culver, in his return to Skylands Stadium. Culver would tally two hits in 4 at-bats, recording the only multi-hit game for Tri-City.
Season Twenty-FUN of ValleyCats baseball and entertainment continues on when the ValleyCats and Miners resume their mid-week three-game set tomorrow morning for a special 11 AM game at Skylands Stadium. The 'Cats will be back at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium to take on the Washington Wild Things for a three-game series starting on Friday, May 19 where it will be Youth Baseball Night #1 at the ballpark. You can secure your seats today and be a part of the excitement by logging on totcvalleycats.com or by calling 518-629-CATS (2287).
