ValleyCats Drop Final Game of Homestand
July 8, 2014 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
TROY, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats fell to the Connecticut Tigers by the score of 18-4 on Tuesday in front of 3,772 fans on Camp Day/Senior Day at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.
Tri-City first baseman A.J. Reed was a bright spot offensively, as the University of Kentucky alum went 3-4 with a double, a home run, and three runs batted in. His home run, a solo shot off of Connecticut right-hander Austin Pritcher in the eighth inning, was Reed's second of the season, and first at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.
Reed, who led all of NCAA Division 1 in home runs this spring, finished the homestand with a total of nine hits in 17 at bats. Of those nine hits, he had two doubles to go along with Tuesday's home run.
Despite giving up the home run to Reed, Pritcher (3-1) earned the win for the Tigers by pitching seven innings of relief. Getting charged with the loss for the 'Cats was Francis Ramirez (1-3), who allowed five runs in 3.1 frames.
Even with Tuesday's defeat, the ValleyCats concluded their five-game homestand with a 4-1 record following a three-game sweep of the Lowell Spinners, and last night's 10-2 win over Connecticut. Tri-City's offense combined to score 41 runs over the five games, while slugging a total of seven home runs.
The 'Cats will now head out on the road for a three-game series against the Jamestown Jammers, the New York-Penn League affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. On the mound for Tri-City will be RHP Austin Chrismon (2-2, 5.57), with RHP Frank Duncan (0-1, 5.40) getting the start for Jamestown.
Following the three-game set in Jamestown, Tri-City will play three against the Williamsport Crosscutters, before heading back to Troy, NY after an off day for a six-game homestand starting July 16th against the Aberdeen IronBirds, New York-Penn League affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.
