
Verlander & Connecticut Pound the ValleyCats

Troy, NY - The Connecticut Tigers (12-13) defeated the Tri-City ValleyCats (14-9) by a score of 17-4 Tuesday afternoon at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. The Tigers put on an offensive attack in their win as they were led by OF Ben Verlander (4-6). Verlander put together a four-hit performance including two homeruns and seven RBI's. Verlander hit a sixth inning grandslam which put the Tigers ahead at 13-3.
The Tigers struck for 18 runs on 17 hits. The Tigers had at least one RBI from eight of their nine batters in the game. All nine batters reached base at least once. In the fourth inning, Tigers 1B Jacob Kapstein (2-4) put the Tigers in front 3-2 with an RBI double. Kapstein added a two-run double in the eighth inning as it gave him a three RBI day. CF Ross Kivett (3-6) added three singles performance along with two RBI's and two runs scored. DH Joey Pankake (1-3) extended his hit streak to nine games with a leadoff double in the eighth inning.
RHP Austin Pritcher (3-1) picked up his third win of the season as he came on in relief of starter RHP Josh Heddinger (0-0) who only pitched three innings while allowing two runs on four hits. Pritcher pitched well in relief of Heddinger as he pitched six innings while allowing two runs on three hits, walked two and struck out two batters in the game.
The Tigers and Auburn Doubledays begin a three-game series starting tomorrow night at Dodd Stadium. Tigers RHP Tanner Bailey (1-0, 0.40) is scheduled to face Doubledays RHP Raymel Flores (1-2, 1.31). Tomorrow is Wednesday Family Four Pack night.
