
Spikes Win Seventh in a Row, Top Doubledays, 10-2

AUBURN, NY - Rowan Wick smashed his New York-Penn League-leading 12th home run of the season, Robelys Reyes hit his first homer of the year, and Jhohan Acevedo drove in four runs as the Spikes ran their winning streak to seven games with a 10-2 victory over the Auburn Doubledays on Tuesday night at Falcon Park.
Wick's two-run shot in the second inning ended a season-long four-game homerless streak, and put the Spikes (18-7) on the board for the first time. The long ball also bumped Wick's league-leading RBI total to 30, and his 2-for-4 performance at the plate increased his batting average to an even .400 on the year.
Reyes launched a three-run homer to left field to cap a five-run fourth for State College. The switch-hitting shortstop went 2-for-5 as the Spikes' leadoff man.
Acevedo delivered a pair of two-run singles to bolster the Spikes' offense, while Nick Thompson brought in the other State College run with his sixth-inning double.
Fernando Baez (1-0) went a season-long five innings for his first win as a Spike. Baez recorded seven of the staff's season-high 15 strikeouts on the night. The right-hander allowed one run on two hits and three walks.
Auburn (10-14) starter Drew Van Orden (0-2) took the loss after giving up eight runs on eight hits, a walk and a hit batsman. Van Orden struck out one batter.
Jeff Gardner hit a solo home run to right field for the Doubledays in the second inning to score the first Auburn run.
The Spikes increased their lead in the NYPL Pinckney Division to 1=C21/2 games with the win as second-place Batavia was rained out on Tuesday.
Wednesday, the Spikes return home to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park to begin a six-game homestand with a 7:05 p.m. matchup against the Brooklyn Cyclones (New York Mets). State College will send right-hander Daniel Poncedelon (1-0) to the mound. Brooklyn will go with right-hander Scarlyn Reyes (0-1) after playing two doubleheaders in the space of 24 hours on Monday and Tuesday.
It's a Half-Price Wednesday at the ballpark, presented by BIG Froggy 101. Fans can get into the park with half-price Outfield Bleacher tickets for $3 each, then enjoy half-price 16-oz. select domestic draft beers from 6-8 p.m. and half-price medium sodas all game long. The night will also feature a pre-game acoustic peformance by Sgt. Bob.

The Spikes' home games on Wednesday through Friday against Brooklyn will begin at 7:05 p.m., as will Saturday's matchup against the Staten Island Yankees (New York Yankees). Sunday, the Spikes and Yankees tangle at 6:05 p.m., with Monday's Super Splash Day game set for a Noon start.
