Renegades Split with Cyclones on Back-to-Back Days

Brooklyn, NY (7/8/2014)- The Hudson Valley Renegades and Brooklyn Cyclones split a double-header on Tuesday afternoon, with two seven inning contests at MCU Park. While playing four games in two days, each team comes away with two wins, as Tuesday marks the final meeting between the Renegades and the Cyclones. At days end, Hudson Valley improves to 18-7 overall, now four games ahead of Brooklyn in first place of the McNamara Division.

In game one, Enderson Franco put together a quality start with three runs and five strikeouts in six innings of work. He pitched every inning of the game for his team, as Brooklyn got the best of the Renegades with a final score of 3-0. Offensively, Wilmer Dominguez went 1-2 with a single and picked up his team's only base-hit in the game.

The Hudson Valley bats came alive in the second game of the double-header, as they put up three runs on eight hits, beating Brooklyn 3-0. Edgar Gomez was very impressive in his first start of 2014, striking out three in 4.2 innings of scoreless baseball. Isaac Gil continues to flourish out of the bullpen, going the rest of the way with three strikeouts and no hits. He earned the win and improves to 4-0 this season with an earned run average of 0.00.

Hunter Lockwood homered to left-field in the top of the sixth inning to give his team a 1-0 lead. The right-handed slugger now has six homers this season, and three in his last five games. Zach Marberry went 2-2 in his pro debut, with a double and a sacrifice fly that drove in a run. He got the start behind the plate defensively and threw out two runners at second base. Leopoldo Correa chipped in with two singles of his own, as Coty Blanchard, Casey Gillaspie and Clayton Henning all had hits as well.

With their win today Hudson Valley is the only team in the New York-Penn League with eighteen victories this season. Their 18-7 record is the best in the league and their 2.54 ERA is the lowest of all fourteen teams.

Notes: Hunter Lockwood is now tied for second in the NYPL with six homeruns, as he and Casey Gillaspie have teamed up for nine of the teams ten. The Renegades lead the league in stolen bases with 51, with Lowell being the next highest with a total of 36.
