Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies defeated the Idaho Steelheads 4-2 Saturday night at Maverik Center before 5,101 fans.
Utah got the scoring started early as Vinny Scarsella's eight goal of the year made it 1-0 just 47 seconds into the game. After 3 Aaron Dell saves on Idaho's first shift, Michael Pelech and D.J. Jelitto quickly setup behind the Idaho net and quickly found Scarsella in front for the score.
Utah made it 2-0 just 48 seconds later on a Phil Mangan (5) power-play goal 1:35 into the game. Pelech won a face-off to Patrick O'Keefe who found Mangan for the blast four seconds into the power-play.
"It's about getting pucks through," said Phil Mangan. "They had a defensemen in the way and I knew if I could get it past him it had a good chance."
Idaho made it 2-1 with a power-play goal in the first and that score stood at the first intermission.
Utah made it 3-1 on David Vallorani's team leading 14th goal of the year as Gentry Zollars fed him the puck up ice in transition.
Danick Paquette made it 4-1 just 1:36 into the third period as Brendan Jamison picked up a puck in his own zone and got it to Paquette who went coast-to-coast for the score.
Utah and Idaho were playing after Utah won 3-0 in Boise Friday and the Grizzlies arrived home at 3:30 a.m. this morning. "I think we stepped up a little bit because of that," said Aaron Dell. "We knew we were all going to be tired and we came out and did the things we needed to do to win."
Dell stopped 29 of 31 Idaho shots to improve to 10-3-0-1 on the year. The win improves Utah to 8-2-1-2 since Christmas and elevated their home unbeaten streak to seven-straight games at 5-0-0-2.
Monday is Maverik Monday at 1:35 p.m. for Martin Luther King Day. Fans can get six tickets for $30 with a receipt from Maverik at the arena box office.
Ticket packages for the 2013-2014 season are still on sale and start at just $29. For more information, visit http://www.utahgrizzlies.comor call (801) 988-7825.
