
Union kick off U.S. Open Cup against D.C. United on Wednesday

Chester, Pa. (April 4, 2011) - Philadelphia Union (2-1-0, 6 points) will face their two closest rivals this week, as the team kicks off the U.S. Open Cup tournament at D.C. United on Wednesday, April 6 at 7:30 p.m. EST and then return home to host the New York Red Bulls (1-0-2, 5 points) in Major League Soccer action on Saturday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m. EST at PPL Park. The MLS encounter will be broadcast live on ESPN2. On Sunday, April 11, Philadelphia Union will also kick off their Reserve League schedule when they host the New York Red Bulls Reserves at 10:00 a.m. EST at Chester Park in Wallingford, Pa.
Philadelphia Union lost their first MLS match to the LA Galaxy on Saturday, April 2, despite the Galaxy playing a man down for the majority of the second half. The match's lone goal came from an indirect free kick by David Beckham that Leonardo headed in in the 33rd minute, which ended the Union's clean sheet streak at 213 minutes. Midfielder Keon Daniel made his MLS professional debut on Saturday when he came in for forward Danny Mwanga at halftime.
Union midfielder Amobi Okugo and goalkeeper Zac MacMath helped the U.S. U-20 Men's National Team advance to the Quarterfinal stage of the 2011 CONCACAF U-20 Championship on Saturday, April 2, after topping Suriname 4-0 on March 29 and Panama 2-0 on April 2. MacMath has posted a 2-0 record thus far in this tournament, as has Costa Rica's Mauricio Vargas and Mexico's Carlos Lopez. The squad will now face Guatemala on Saturday, April 6 at 10:00 p.m. EST.
