Earthquakes to Play New York Red Bulls on July 2 at Stanford Stadium

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the club has moved their Saturday, July 2 match against international stars Thierry Henry and Rafa Márquez and the New York Red Bulls to Stanford Stadium in Stanford, Calif. The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. PT and air live on ESPN2.

"Stanford Stadium is one of the premier venues on the West Coast," said Earthquakes President David Kaval. "We see this match as a great opportunity to extend our reach to the Greater Bay Area and also provide our fans with an exciting game experience, including a fireworks extravaganza."

Season ticket holders will have a two-week presale to purchase additional individual tickets before tickets go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, April 19 at 10 a.m. PT. Group tickets and a FIREWORKS 4 PACK are on sale now by calling the Earthquakes Front Office at 408-556-7700. The four-pack is also on sale at sjearthquakes.com and includes four tickets and two Chris Wondolowski t-shirts for $50. Individual tickets will range from $15 to $50 and can be purchased at sjearthquakes.com or by calling 800-225-2277.

In addition to those ticket options, fans from San Francisco can also purchase a Quakes Blues Cruise ticket package by calling 408-556-7700. For $25, fans will receive a match ticket and transportation to and from the stadium from two locations in San Francisco. Season ticket holders can also ride the bus at a discounted rate and should contact their Earthquakes Fan Relations Representative to inquire about availability.

"The Earthquakes have a long and storied tradition in the Bay Area and we are happy to host their fans here at Stanford Stadium in this exciting match," said Ray Purpur, Deputy Director of Athletics at Stanford University.

Following the match, the Earthquakes will treat fans to the best fireworks show on the Peninsula for the Fourth of July weekend. Fans can stay in their seats or move onto the field for the best view to watch the fireworks.

The Epicenter Fan Zone will be moved from Buck Shaw Stadium to Stanford for the match. Fans will be able to enjoy foosball, corn hole, face painting and poster making prior to kickoff. Gourmet food trucks will also be on site.

The Earthquakes have not played at Stanford Stadium since July 4, 1999, when they took on D.C. United in front of 73,123 fans as part of a doubleheader with the U.S. Women's National Team. San Jose won the game in a shootout, following a 1-1 tie. The team also played their first three matches of the 1998 season at Stanford Stadium, while Spartan Stadium was undergoing renovations. The Quakes lost to the Colorado Rapids and the Dallas Burn in shootouts before defeating the Chicago Fire 1-0.

Stanford Stadium played host to the largest crowd for a soccer match in Bay Area history on July 4, 1994 when the United States National Team faced Brazil in the second round of the 1994 World Cup. The U.S. fell 1-0 to Brazil in front of 84,177 fans.
