RED-AND-WHITE RETURN HOME THIS SATURDAY, APRIL 9 AGAINST COLUMBUS CREW: After playing two matches on the road in the past week, the Red-and-White will return to The Home Depot Center on Saturday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. when the team takes on the Columbus Crew. MORENO SCORES FIRST GOAL FOR CHIVAS USA IN 1-1 DRAW AT TORONTO: Chivas USA earned its first point of 2011 with a 1-1 draw at Toronto FC on Saturday, receiving a third-minute goal from Alejandro Moreno to move to 0-2-1 (W-L-T) on the season. The Red-and-White came out firing, and got their first lead of the season when Jorge Flores won a ball at the top of the box and played it toward the penalty spot. Moreno, who was serving as captain for Chivas USA, got to the ball before the TFC defenders and flicked home for the lead.
CHIVAS USA LAUNCHES ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS CAMPAIGN: Chivas USA and MLS W.O.R.K.S., Major League Soccer's community outreach initiative, will launch a unique recycling contest at three local schools as part of the club's month-long "Greener Goals" campaign. The contest will challenge students, teachers and parents to fill twenty bins with recyclables from April 4th to April 15th, and will be judged on the amount of material collected within that time period. ZAREK VALENTIN AND U.S. U-20'S PREPARE FOR HUGE MATCH: Chivas USA defender Zarek Valentin, drafted by Chivas USA this offseason out of the University of Akron, is with the United States Under-20 National Team for the 2011 CONCACAF U-20 Championship in Guatemala. The team earned wins in its first two matches, and will face the host nation on Wednesday in the quarterfinals, with the winner earning an automatic berth to the FIFA Under-20 World Cup later this year. The match can be seen live on ESPN Deportes or ESPN3.com starting at 7:00 p.m. PT on Wednesday. Valentin has played the full 90 minutes in both of the U.S.'s matches so far.
RED-AND-WHITE GET FIRST-ROUND SUPPLEMENTAL DRAFT PICK: Chivas USA announced last Friday that it has acquired a 2012 first round supplemental draft selection from FC Dallas in exchange for the rights to forward Maykel Galindo. The forward originally joined Chivas USA on Feb. 8, 2007, from the Seattle Sounders, then of the USL-1, where he had played in 2005 and 2006. Galindo played a total of 67 matches in four seasons for the Red-and-White (48 as a starter) and scored a total of 18 goals with 9 assists. He left the team following the 2010 MLS season and has trained with Dallas throughout 2011.
CHIVAS USA UNDER-18 GOALKEEPER DIEGO CHACON WITH GUATEMALA U-20 TEAM: In addition to defender Zarek Valentin, Chivas USA has another representative at the CONCACAF U-20 Championship, in Chivas USA U-18 goalkeeper Diego Chacon. The young goalkeeper will be representing the host nation, Guatemala, who face the United States in quarterfinal action this Wednesday night.
RED-AND-WHITE YOUTH TEAMS SPLIT WITH SAN DIEGO SURF: The Chivas USA Youth Teams in the National Development Academy earned a split with the San Diego Surf this past weekend, with the U-16's falling by a 2-1 score, but the U-18's winning 3-1. The teams will return home this coming weekend, hosting Arsenal FC in Santa Ana.
