Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH â The Manchester Monarchs, the AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have released goaltender Matt Underhill, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today.
Underhill, 24, went 0-2-0 with a 4.55 goals-against-average and a .839 save-percentage in two appearances with the Monarchs after signing a professional tryout agreement with the team on Tuesday, October 14. The native of Campbell River, British Columbia, is expected to return to the Florence Pride of the ECHL.
Underhill, who has a career record of 3-5-1 in nine AHL appearances over the last two seasons, replaced goaltender Milan Hnilicka on the Monarchs roster after Hnilicka suffered a groin injury in a game against the Lowell Lock Monsters on Saturday, October 11. Hnilicka is expected to be ready to play when the Monarchs travel to Lowell to take on the Lowell Lock Monsters on Friday, October 24.
Schmidt Out 2-4 Weeks With Fractured Foot: Left wing Chris Schmidt is expected to miss 2-4 weeks of action with a fractured foot. Schmidt, who has two points (0-2=2) in five games with the Monarchs this season, did not skate in the Monarchs game against the Hershey Bears on Sunday, October 19. He was injured when he blocked a shot in overtime against the Portland Pirates on Saturday, October 18.
Kelly Suspended Pending AHL Review: Center Steve Kelly missed the Monarchs game against the Hershey Bears (5-3 L) on Sunday, October 19 after receiving a three-game suspension for physically abusing an official on Saturday, October 18 in Portland. Kelly received the penalty seconds after the Pirates defeated the Monarchs in overtime (2-1 OTL). The Monarchs, in an attempt to reduce the suspension, have asked for a review of the incident by the AHL.
The Monarchs return to action with three road games this week. They are scheduled to meet the Lowell Lock Monsters at the Tsongas Arena on Friday, October 24 (7:00 p.m.). After that, they are scheduled to play the Hartford Wolf Pack at the Hartford Civic Center on Saturday, October 25 (7:05 p.m.), and the Providence Bruins at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Sunday, October 25 (4:05 p.m.).
The Monarchs next home game is scheduled for Saturday, November 1 against the Lowell Lock Monsters. Single seats in the Gold Level and 700 seats in the Silver Level remain for that game. Every fan attending the Monarchs game on that day will receive an 8 x 10 photo of Monarchs defenseman Joe Rullier, courtesy of the New Hampshire Prevention and Control Program.
