Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins on Monday announced that the Detroit Red Wings have assigned goaltender Curtis Joseph to the American Hockey League team.

Joseph, 36, is expected to join Grand Rapids for Wednesday's and Thursday's 10:30 a.m. practices at Van Andel Arena and be available to play this Friday, Oct. 24 when the Griffins host the Utah Grizzlies at 7:30 p.m.

The Keswick, Ontario, native has appeared in 767 NHL contests since 1989, posting a 380-279-87 record with a 2.76 goals against average and 41 shutouts. He helped lead the Red Wings to the Central Division title last season, going 34-19-6 with a 2.49 GAA and five shutouts.

Signed as a free agent by St. Louis, June 16, 1989. Traded to Edmonton by St. Louis with the rights to Mike Grier for St. Louis' 1st round choices (previously acquired) in 1996 (Marty Reasoner) and 1997 (later traded to Los Angeles - Los Angeles selected Matt Zultek) Entry Drafts, August 4, 1995. Signed as a free agent by Toronto, July 15, 1998. Traded to Calgary by Toronto for Calgary's 3rd round choice (later traded to Minnesota - Minnesota selected Danny Irmen) in 2003 Entry Draft and future considerations, June 30, 2002. Signed as a free agent by Detroit, July 2, 2002.
