Evansville Otters News Release

Evansville, IN- For the second consecutive week, the Evansville Otters have turned to the University of Evansville to bolster their pitching staff, as right-handed pitcher Scott Souther has been signed by the ballclub.

Souther concluded the 2006 season with a 7-1 record, three saves, a 2.10 ERA, and 48 strikeouts in 55.2 innings for Purple Aces, leading UE to the Missouri Valley Conference title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Souther just missed having enough innings to qualify for the ERA title this spring, a category in which he would have led the conference. Souther's last outing was on Sunday, June 4, when he picked up the victory over Virginia in an elimination game by allowing three runs in seven innings while striking out eight.

Souther will make his professional debut on Saturday evening as the Otters' starting pitcher against the River City Rascals. This game will mark the second consecutive Saturday where a former UE pitcher has made his Otter debut as the starting pitcher, as left-handed pitcher Michael Greenhouse (a 2005 graduate) tossed six shutout innings in defeating the Windy City ThunderBolts on June 3.

"We've had our eyes on both Greenhouse and Souther for a while," commented Otters' director of baseball operations Jeff Pohl. "We thought that Souther could be drafted this spring, and thank UE head coach Dave Schrage for calling and letting us know that Scott was available."

The Otters continue their six-game road trip with games in River City on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday before returning to Bosse Field to open a six-game homestand against the Chillicothe Paints and Rockford RiverHawks on Tuesday, June 13.

The Evansville Otters were voted a Platinum Winner in the Evansville Courier & Press Reader's Choice Awards and Best Sporting Event by the readers of Evansville Living magazine in 2005.
