Evansville Otters News Release

O'Fallon, MO - The Evansville Otters (7-8) and River City Rascals (8-7) were beaten by Mother Nature on Saturday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark as a large storm cell swept across the St. Louis metro area bringing with it high winds, lighting and sheets of rain.

The two teams will pick up their suspended game on Sunday, with the Evansville Otters leading 2-0 in the bottom at first with a runner at first and a 1-2 count on Kirk McConnel. Following the conclusion of the suspended game, the two teams will then play a seven inning game.

Evansville's Scott Souther was making his professional debut when the rain came. Souther walked the first batter he faced in his pro career Anthony Slagle on a 3-2 pitch. The Otter struck for a pair of runs in the first inning thanks to the return of Matt Edwards to the lineup. After Frank Scott was hit by a pitch, Jeff Goldbach singled to center to put a few men aboard for Edwards who promptly bashed a fastball over Slagle's head in center to plate both runners and make it 2-0 Evansville. The runs came off River City starter Steve Brook, who's status for the suspended game is unsure. Souther meanwhile is scheduled to take the ball again and pitch in search of a win in his debut.

In the second game, Evansville is slated to go with right-hander Landon Brazell (0-1, 6.19 ERA). He will see right-hander Chris Webb (0-0, 7.88 ERA) opposing him.

The meeting is the first of the year for the Otters against their rivals from the Western Division, the River City Rascals. Evansville is 0-2 this year in doubleheaders losing 8-4 and 5-2 at Florence on May 26th.
