Grizzlies win rain-shortened affair
June 10, 2006 - Frontier League (FL)
Gateway Grizzlies News Release
The Gateway Grizzlies (9-7) got some cooperation from Mother Nature Saturday night. The Grizzlies defeated the Chillicothe Paints (12-4) 3-1 at GCS Ballpark.
With the game tied at 1 in the bottom of the fourth, a power outage and heavy winds forced a delay that lasted 52 minutes. Following the delay Rob Wirth drove his first home run over the left field wall for the eventual game winning runs.
In the top of the fifth, the Paints had a runner on with one out when Adrian Cantu grounded into a double play to end the inning moments before heavy rains forced the second delay and the eventual end of play.
Wirth was 1-2 with the home run and two RBIs. Jason Arrowood was 1-1 with an RBI. Taylor Johnson 1-2 with a double and two runs scored.
Steve Soja (2-1) pitched the first four innings for the win. He allowed a run on four hits. He struck out three. Anthony Rebyanski earned the save with the inning of relief.
The Grizzlies and Paints will continue the series with a 6:05 p.m. game Sunday night at GCS Ballpark.
