Batkoski's big night boosts Beach Bums

Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

Nick Batkoski went 3-for-5 with a career-high five RBI as the Traverse City Beach Bums extended their winning steak to four games beating the Rockford RiverHawks 6-3.

The two starting pitchers were the story early on as the game remained scoreless into the fifth. Traverse City broke through in the top half of the inning. With Justin Meagher on first and one out, Steve Young singled to put runners on first and second. Batkoski cashed in the opportunity for the Beach Bums as he drilled a triple over the head of rightfielder Nick Johnson to put TC up 2-0. Mike Reese then drove home Batkoski with a single to right to make it 3-0.

The Beach Bums added to the lead in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Batkoski delivered again with an RBI single to left, scoring Clay Blevins and John Engers to put Traverse City up 5-0. In the bottom of the sixth, Rockford plated a run on two hits to make it 5-1.

Batkoski wasn't done as with a runner on second in the eighth, Batkoski ripped an RBI double down the leftfield line, scoring Engers and making it 6-1.

In the ninth, Gooby Gerlits drove a two-run homer over the leftfield fence to create the final score of 6-3.

Batkoski's five RBI bested his previous high of four which he set on August 19, 2005 against the Mid-Missouri Mavericks and helped make a winner of Robbie McClellan (1-1). McClellan went 5.2 innings, scattering six hits and one run in earning his first win with Traverse City.

Shaun Parker will go for his second Beach Bums win in the middle game of the series Sunday night against Tanner Watson for Rockford. Game time is set for 7:05 EST and can be heard on 94.3 The Fox FM.
