Two-Time National League All-Star Yasmani Grandal to Begin Rehab Assignment at Victory Field

Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced that catcher Yasmani Grandal will begin a rehab assignment with the Indianapolis Indians as they open a six-game homestand vs. the St. Paul Saints at Victory Field tonight at 6:05. Grandal is the fourth major league rehabber assigned to Indy this season, following utilityman Ji Hwan Bae and right-handed relievers Colin Holderman and Carmen Mlodzinski.
Grandal, 35, was placed on the 10-day injured list with left foot plantar fasciitis on March 28 (retroactive to March 25). He went 0-for-3 in just two spring training games after signing with Pittsburgh as a free agent on Feb. 14. Grandal spent the entire 2023 season with Chicago (AL) and hit .234 (85-for-363) with 22 extra-base hits and 33 RBI in 118 games. He was a National League All-Star with Los Angeles (NL) in 2015 and again with Milwaukee in 2019 and has 185 career home runs in the big leagues.
Nicknamed the "Yazmanian Devil", Grandal made his Triple-A debut with the Louisville Bats at Victory Field on Sept. 2, 2011. In two career games at Victory Field, he is 2-for-6 with a run, double, RBI and two walks.
The native of La Habana, Cuba was originally selected by Cincinnati in the first round (12th overall) in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Miami (Coral Gables, Fla.). Grandal made his major league debut with San Diego on June 2, 2012, vs. Arizona.
