Reno Aces News Release
EL PASO, Texas - The Reno Aces hung 10 runs in the first five innings, and capitalized on a quality start from Humberto Mejia to win 10-5 against the El Paso Chihuahuas. First baseman Seth Beer homered twice, leading the charge at the plate.
The Aces got the bats going early in a big way, with Jake McCarthy and Beer each driving solo homers to make it a 2-0 Reno lead.
Beer was right back at it in the third inning, driving another solo homer to make it a 3-0 Aces lead and giving the first baseman his second two-home run night of the year. Beer went yard twice in a 7-4 loss at Sacramento on July 30.
The scoring continued in the inning, with Christian Lopes doubling to score Cooper Hummel and make it a 4-0 lead.
After a scoreless fourth, the Aces bats exploded in the fifth to a tune of six runs on five hits. Lopes doubled again to score Henry Ramos and Hummel again - stretching the lead to 6-0. Juniel Querecuto followed it up with a triple to score Lopes. Humberto Mejia would earn an RBI on a groundout that scored Querecuto, making it an 8-0 game.
McCarthy would drive in Jose Herrera with a single, and come around to score on an Ildemaro Vargas double to make it 10-0.
El Paso picked up their first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth, making it a 10-1 Aces lead.
In the sixth inning, Aces starter Humberto Mejia struck out his ninth batter of the night, tying a season high and coming just short of his career-best 11. Mejia finished with just one run allowed on four hits in six innings of work, and struck out 10.
The Chihuahuas added four runs on five hits in the ninth to make it a 10-5 final.
The Aces are back in action tomorrow at 5:35 p.m. PT from Southwest University Park. The game can be heard on KPLY 630AM or on RenoAces.com with Zack Bayrouty on the call.
