Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

TULSA, OK - Connor Wong's 10th-inng drive off the wall in right field ended a Saturday night stalemate, sending the Drillers to a 6-5 win over the Hooks before a crowd of 7,593 fans at ONEOK Field.

Tulsa relievers Marshall Kasowski, Shea Spitzbarth, and Nolan Long teamed to strike out seven while allowing just one baserunner over the final five innings.

Corpus Christi jumped out to a 5-1 lead after five. Jonathan Arauz started the scoring with a two-run single to left field in the third against Edwin Uceta.

The Hooks added an unearned run in the fourth before benefitting from a big fly in the fifth. With two away in the frame, Jake Adams launched a two-run home run into the left-field terrace for his 20th blast of the season.

Adams' five Double-A round-trippers have come within a span of 11 games.

Bryan Abreu cruised through the first five innings, striking out nine against four hits. Chris Parmelee's first-inning solo homer was the first long ball yielded by Abreu in 16 Texas League outings.

Abreu has dispatched 12 of 14 batters heading into the sixth. A pair of walks started the rally for the Drillers who scored twice on a sac fly and a wild pitch. Tulsa leveled the score in the seventh on a two-out, two-run knock by Jeter Downs off former Driller Andre Scrubb.

Carlos Sanabria kept Tulsa at bay in the eighth and ninth. Nick Hernandez and Wong, teammates at the University of Houston, faced off to start the home 10th. After spoiling two pitches, Wong belted a 1-2 pitch over the head of right-fielder Bryan De La Cruz to chase the place-runner Parmelee home from second.

The Drillers committed two errors on the night but received a terrific leaping catch from left-fielder Donovan Casey that robbed Jake Meyers of a three-run home run in the fourth.

Sunday's rubber match pits Tulsa right-hander JoJo Gray against Chad Donato. First pitch 1:05.
