Howard, Calabuig Lead Hounds to Fourth Straight Win

August 25, 2019 - Texas League (TL1)
Midland RockHounds News Release

The first 90 seconds of Saturday night's game belonged to the Springfield Cardinals. The RockHounds took from there.

Kramer Robertson opened the game with a walk and was running on the first pitch to Rayder Ascanio, who sent a one-hopper down the right field line, scoring Robertson. RockHounds starter Brian Howard would then retire 11-of-the-next-13 batters he faced and would allow just one run on five hits, walking two and whiffing five, over six innings for the win.

The 'Hounds erased the 1-0 deficit with a three-run third and added another hat trick in the fourth to close the scoring.

Chase Calabuig, again, led the offense (see below), going 3-for-4 with a run, a walk, and two RBI. Dan Gamache went 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring two runs and driving in another.

The win was the RockHounds' fourth in-a-row overall and their second straight over the Cardinals. There are just nine games remaining in the Texas League regular season, including Sunday's home finale at Rocky Town.

The Texas League South Division

Amarillo won a battle of first half division winners, defeating the Arkansas Travelers, 1-0, at North Little Rock. Frisco won for the second straight night in extra innings (4-3) over Northwest Arkansas, but Corpus Christi fell at Tulsa, 6-5 (also in 10 innings).

Amarillo's lead over the 'Hounds stays at two games in the second half race with the Hooks now three games out and Frisco staying 3½ back (keep in mind, however, the Sod Poodles finish with eight games at home).

The 'Hounds gained a game over Corpus Christi in the wild card chase. The RockHounds (66-64) now lead the Hooks (64-66) by two games and Frisco (63-66) by 2½.

There are just nine (9) games remaining in the Texas League's 2019 regular season

Notables
