Trenton Thunder News Release
The Thunder were shut out in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader, 6-0, before rebounding for a walkoff win, 4-3, over the Altoona Curve in the second game at ARM & HAMMER Park.
The first game, a continuation of May 30's suspended game between the two teams, picked up with two a runner on second and two outs in the top of third inning with Altoona leading, 6-0.
Neither team managed to score in the completion, as both teams sent a pair of relievers to complete the game. Curve (18-20, 54-52) right-hander Yeudy Garcia tossed four scoreless innings from the third through the sixth, and Jesus Liranzo pitched around a one-out double by Kellin Deglan in the seventh. Greg Weissert cruised through three and one-third scoreless innings for the Thunder (18-22, 56-50), striking out five. Andrew Bellatti pitched a scoreless top of the seventh.
In the second game, rehabbing Yankees right-hander Jonathan Loaisiga started for the Thunder and tossed two scoreless innings, striking out three. The Thunder took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a Brian Navarreto RBI-single and a fielder's choice grounder by Matt Lipka.
Michael King, on minor league rehab assignment, took over on the mound for the Thunder to begin the third, allowing a single to Jerrick Suiter and hitting Chris Sharpe with a pitch. Jared Oliva then lined a single to right field that rolled under the glove of right fielder Isiah Gilliam, allowing all three runners to circle the bases and putting Altoona in front, 3-2.
King proceeded to retire nine of the final 10 batter he faced through the sixth inning, and Daniel Alvarez pitch a scoreless top of the seventh to keep the game within reach for the Thunder.
Curve starter Domingo Robles remained on the mound for the seventh and allowed consecutive one-out singles to Navarreto and Matt Lipka. Kyle Holder followed with a double to right field, plating both runners and lifting the Thunder to victory.
Your Thunder continue their homestand at 7 p.m. against the Curve. RHP Nick Green (1-3, 8.78) will start for the Thunder, and RHP Nick Economos (0-1, 4.76) will go for Altoona. Tickets are available by phone at 609-394-3300 or online at TrentonThunder.com.
