Hamilton Tiger-Cats News Release

Running back TROY DAVIS is the Hamilton Tiger-Cats' nominee as OUTSTANDING PLAYER for the 2002 season.

In the list of First Balloting for the CFL Most Outstanding Player Awards, announced today, Davis was joined by teammates TONY MILES, wide receiver, nominated as Outstanding Rookie; ROB HITCHCOCK, nominated in two categories...Outstanding Defensive Player and Outstanding Canadian; DAVE HACK, nominated as Outstanding Offensive Lineman for the fourth consecutive time and PAUL OSBALDISTON, nominated as Outstanding Special Teams Player (the John Agro Award.)

Davis has rushed for 1,113 yards so far this season, his second with the team, despite missing 4 games with a broken bone in his left hand. He has become only the 8th Tiger-Cat to rush for 1,000 yards in a season.

Safety Rob Hitchcock, with 7 interceptions, has established a new career high this season. Hitchcock's previous single season high came last season when he had 6 interceptions en route to being selected an All-Eastern and All-Canadian All-Star. Rob is an eight-year Tiger-Cat and CFL veteran.

For Rookie nominee, Tony Miles, the nomination comes at a point in the season where he's showing the flash and style he exhibited in the opening games of the 2002 campaign.

6 year Tiger-Cat veteran Dave Hack continues to serve as the anchor of an offensive line that still leads the league with the fewest quarterback sacks allowed.

Kicker Paul Osbaldiston, currently in his 17th season as a Tiger-Cat, holds 27 regular-season team records and began the 2002 season in 3rd spot on the CFL's Career scoring list.

Voting for the league player awards is conducted by members of the Football Reporters of Canada.

The Hamilton Chapter of the FRC determined the Tiger-Cat nominees.
