Arkansas Travelers News Release

Center fielder Mike Trout is back with the Travs after his first stint as a major leaguer. The Angels' No. 1 prospect and the No. 2 prospect in baseball according to Baseball America, Trout played in 14 games with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and batted .163 (7 for 43) with one home run and six RBIs. He scored six runs and was 1 for 1 in stolen bases.

Trout, who will turn 20 on Aug. 7, was called up to the Angels on July 8 when center fielder Peter Bourjos went down with a hamstring injury. Bourjos was eventually placed on the disabled list and Trout went 0 for 3 in his major-league debut against the Seattle Mariners.

Trout started seven consecutive games for the Angels in center field and had his one and only two-hit game on July 22 against the Baltimore Orioles. He went 2 for 4 with an RBI, scored two runs and stole a base. He hit his home run two games later on July 24, again versus the Orioles. It was a three-run shot in the eighth inning. Trout batted .333 against the Orioles in his call-up, but only .118 against other teams.

Bourjos returned from his injury on July 23 and Trout's playing time dwindled. In the Angels' past nine games, Trout has played in only four, pinch-hitting in one, and pinch-running in another. Trout was sent back to the Travs so he could start every day. Before his call up, he was hitting .324 in 75 games with the Travs with nine home runs and 27 RBIs. He also had 12 doubles, 11 triples, 28 stolen bases, and he scored 69 runs. Trout was drafted by the Angels in the first round (25th overall) of the 2009 draft out of Millville (N.J.) Senior High School.
