Arkansas Travelers News Release

Todd Takayoshi's term as Travs' manager has come to an end. Takayoshi took over as manager on June 25 when former manager Bill Mosiello took an assistant coach's position with the University of Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville. Bobby Mitchell will manage the Travs for the rest of the year.

Takayoshi went 13-20 (.394 winning percentage) in his stint with the Travs and will return to his post as an Angels' field coordinator and roving hitting instructor. Mitchell has a 361-350 record in five years with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and the Salt Lake Bees, both Angels' affiliates. Mitchell has been in the Angels' organization for nine years, most recently serving as a roving instructor for the outfield, base running and bunting. Mitchell hit .243 in four seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Minnesota Twins. He had three home runs, 43 RBIs and 75 runs in 202 career games.

The Travs also placed infielder Jon Townsend on the 7-day disabled list. Townsend injured his left hand in his third at bat against the Tulsa Drillers on Sunday, July 31. Infielder Jesus Campos was called up from Class A Cedar Rapids Kernels to take Townsend's spot on the roster.

Townsend, 26, batted .262 with two home runs and 17 RBIs in 53 games with the Travs this season. The right-handed batter batted .313 against right-handed pitchers, but struggled against lefties batting .163. Campos, 23, hit .215 with no home runs and nine RBIs in 55 games with the Kernels. Campos bats right-handed and hit .316 against lefties and .183 against righties. Townsend signed with the Angels as a non-drafted free agent in 2008 and Campos was selected in the 24th round of the 2010 draft out of California State.

Outfielder Chris Giovinazzo was sent down to the rookie level Orem Owlz as a result of center fielder Mike Trout's return to the Travs from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Giovinazzo, 22, had a .167 (11-66) average in 16 games with the Travs. He had no home runs and three RBIs. He was selected by the Angels in the 39th round of the 2011 draft out of UCLA.
