Frederick Keys News Release
ZEBULON, N.C - Following a one hour and 32 minute rain delay, the Carolina Mudcats (43-41, 9-5) used a trio of multi-run innings to defeat the Frederick Keys (38-46, 3-12) 8-2 on Thursday night. The loss pushed the Keys losing streak to eight in a row, while the Mudcats earned their fourth straight win.
A scoreless game going to the fourth, the Mudcats tagged Keys starter Lucas Humpal for two runs. Dallas Carroll and Demi Orimoloye singled. Two batters later, the two scored on a Weston Wilson triple. It was the fourth triple in the past two games for Carolina.
They would add to their lead in the fifth. Cooper Hummell walked and stole second. He then advanced on a groundout, and scored when Devin Hariston hit a ground ball to Chris Clare to make it 3-0.
Three more were plated in the sixth. Orimoloye singled, and scored on a Wilson single. Following a Ryan Aguilar double, Hummell drove in two with a double which pushed the lead to 6-0.
The Keys scored their two runs in the seventh. With two outs, Cole Billingsley reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to third on a Yojhan Quevedo double. Jake Ring then hit a two-run single.
A two-run home run by Nathan Rodriguez in the eighth inning ended the scoring for both teams, and secured the 8-2 win for Carolina.
Cam Roegner (8-4) produced a quality start in the win for the Mudcats. Tossing 6.2 innings, Roegner allowed two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out four. Humpal (2-8) took the loss. The right-hander allowed six runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings while walking one and striking out four.
