Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indians plated three runs on two hits and three Gwinnett errors in the sixth inning en route to a 4-1 win on Friday night at Victory Field. The triumph was Indy's 16th in its last 20 games and moved them a season-high 11 games over .500.

One night after holding the Charlotte Knights to two hits over nine shutout innings, Indianapolis (31-20) was again led by its pitching staff. Luis Escobar set the tone with 5.0 innings of one-run ball, holding Gwinnett (31-23) to three hits and two walks with six punchouts.

Escobar, who turned 23 on Thursday, turned the game over to Indy's lights-out bullpen. Sean Keselica (W, 1-2) tossed a scoreless sixth to earn the win. During his inning on the bump, Indians right fielder JB Shuck kept the game even at 1-1 with a sensational diving catch near the line to strand a runner at second base.

The momentum carried into the bottom of the sixth. The Tribe loaded the bases with no outs, the first two reaching on back-to-back fielding errors by Stripers shortstop Luis Marte. After a Will Craig single filled the bags, Bryse Wilson fanned Pablo Reyes on a 3-2 fastball for the first out. Shuck then fell behind 0-2 during his at-bat before hitting a slow chopper back to Wilson that plated the go-ahead run. Christian Kelley followed with a clutch two-out, two-run single that made it 4-1.

Yefry Ramirez made his Pirates organization debut in the seventh and pitched around three walks to keep the lead at three. Tyler Lyons (S, 2) recorded the final six outs, including three strikeouts, to earn the save.

Indy's bullpen has allowed just one run in 14.2 innings pitched (0.61 ERA) on the homestand.

Gwinnett plated the game's first run on a double by Ryan LaMarre in the second. The Indians responded with one of their own in the bottom half. Craig doubled and later scored on a Reyes bunt single that led to a throwing error by catcher Alex Jackson, the first of four miscues by the visitors in the ballgame.

Wilson (L, 3-5) gave up four unearned runs on five hits in 6.0 innings pitched.

The 12,775 in attendance marked a 2019 season high.

The Indians and Stripers play again on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Cam Vieaux (1-0, 3.60) will make his Victory Field debut against Kolby Allard (4-3, 4.50).
