Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
PAWTUCKET, R.I. - Travis Taijeron's cycle led the offensive outburst for Syracuse Mets (28-25), as they took game of this three-game series with the Pawtucket Red Sox (21-31) on Friday night by a final of 13-4.
Taijeron's cycle was the first Syracuse cycle since Sil Campusano accomplished the feat on August 25, 1987.
It was also the first cycle against the PawSox since Dewayne Wise did so in 2005 as a member of the Toledo Mud Hens.
Taijeron reached all six times he came to the plate.
The Mets scored runs early and often. Their first came on a solo shot from Rajai Davis on the second pitch of the game. Taijeron had an RBI single in the second inning, and Danny Espinosa hit a three-run blast to center field in the third to put Syracuse up 7-0.
Syracuse hit three home runs on the night, the third being Taijeron's three-run blast in the sixth inning.
Pawtucket got on the board in the fifth on a solo blast from Gorkys Hernández.
Making his fourth start of the season against Pawtucket, Mets hurler Casey Coleman tossed 5 innings of one-run ball. Coleman allowed only 4 hits, didn't walk anybody, and he stuck out 5. He set down the side in succession the first time through the order.
With an infield single in the fourth inning, Sam Travis extended his on-base streak to 25 games.
Marco Hernández continued his torrid pace, going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. Hernández now has 18 hits in his last 42 at bats with 2 home runs, 6 doubles, and 9 runs scored during that span.
The PawSox continue their three-game series with the Mets tomorrow at 6:15 p.m. Pawtucket right-hander Erasmo Ramirez (1-3, 5.86 ERA) is scheduled to oppose Mets righty Zach Lee (3-1, 6.02 ERA). Radio coverage on WHJJ (920 AM and 104.7 FM) and throughout the PawSox Radio Network begins with the pre-game show at 5:45 p.m.
This homestand runs through Tuesday June 4 at McCoy Stadium. Tomorrow night, following a 6:15 p.m. game against the Mets, fans will be treated to Hits of the 2000s Post-Game Fireworks. Sunday June 2 will mark the next Sunday Funday at McCoy Stadium, where fans can play catch in the outfield grass before the game and run the bases afterward.
Good tickets are available, and fans can visit the McCoy Stadium box office, which is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m., and during all home games. Fans can also call (401) 724-7300 or log on to PawSox.com for tickets.
