INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis infielder Ty Wigginton has been recalled by Pittsburgh, while the Pirates have placed infielder Jose Castillo on the big league disabled list with a bruised left knee.

Castillo was involved in a collision on Monday night when Pittsburgh dropped a 3-1 decision to the St. Louis Cardinals. He will undergo an MRI on Tuesday.

Wigginton was recently named the International League's Batter of the Week for the period of Aug. 15-21. He hit .519 (14-for-27) with three homers, eight RBI, 11 runs and a .926 slugging percentage during the week.

Wigginton turned in a 3-for-3 effort with one roundtripper and four runs in the homestand opener against Durham on Aug. 15. He also registered two base knocks on five occasions -- Aug. 16 and 17 against the Bulls, and Aug. 19, 20 and 21 versus Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The 27-year-old, who was optioned to Indianapolis on June 5 after seeing action in 35 games for Pittsburgh, heads back to the big leagues after posting a .293 batting average with 14 HR and 52 RBI in 72 contests at the Triple-A level.

Wigginton has played in 381 Major League games to this point in his eight-year professional career. He spent part of the 2002 campaign, all of 2003 and part of 2004 with the New York Mets before being acquired -- by the Pirates -- in a trade on July 30, 2004.
