FORT MILL, S.C. --The Charlotte Knights split a double-header with the Toledo Mud Hens Monday night, winning 4-3 in the first game and falling 7-1 in the second. Three of the Knights runs in game one came off the long ball. Greg Norton hit a solo home run in the third, and Ross Gload and Joe Borchard went back-to-back to leadoff the fourth.

Borchard's home run was his 25th of the season and his 422nd career hit with Charlotte, tying the all-time career hits record with Jesus Alfaro (422, 1982-84) in Charlotte's 104 seasons of professional baseball. Entering the season, Borchard already held the Knights all-time hits record and is now 137 hits ahead of second-place Brian Daubach (285,1997-98).

The Knights scored the final run of the first game on a sacrifice fly from Roosevelt Brown in the fifth. Willie Harris, who led off the inning with a double, scored on the play.

In relief of Felix Diaz, Dave Sanders (4-2) earned the win from the Knights bullpen, pitching 1 1/3 hitless innings. Kevin Walker earned his fourth save by striking out the final batter of the game.

Jeff Little was spectacular for the Knights in the second game, working four shutout innings from the Knights pen before getting into trouble in the seventh. Little finished with three runs on five hits in four innings while walking three and striking out three. Starter Bobby Jones was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs on four hits in just 2 1/3 innings.

The Knights got just three hits in the game with Harris, Toca and Martinez each picking up one. Manufacturing a run in the third, the Knights avoided the shutout as Jamie Burke, who received the leadoff free pass, scored on a Harris fielder's choice.

Notes:

Joe Borchard is tied for the all-time hits record for Charlotte professional baseball with 422 career hits.

Greg Norton hit his 15th home run and 48th RBI.

Ross Gload now has 13 round-trippers and 37 RBIs.
