TODAY'S GAME: The first of a two game series. The 11th of 12 meetings with the Bats and the fifth of six at Louisville Slugger Field. The Braves are 6-4 vs. the Bats, 3-1 in Louisville. The Braves were 2-4 vs. the Bats in Louisville last season. The Braves open an eight game road trip tonight after playing 11 of 15 at home. The Braves are 6-14 vs. the IL West on the road, 15-29 overall. The Braves are fourth in the South, 2.5 games behind Charlotte. Louisville is fourth in the West, 18 games out. Richmond is 54-61 all-time vs. the Bats. The Braves went 4-3 in a stretch of seven straight games vs. first place clubs that ended yesterday.

YESTERDAY'S GAME: The Braves beat the Toledo Mud Hens 6-1 Sunday at The Diamond. Anthony Lerew and Matt Childers combined to limit the Hens to six hits as the Braves took two of three games from the first place Hens. Richmond jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double by James Jurries and a run producing ground ball by John Barnes. The Hens scored their only run on a home run by Mike Hessman in the second. The Braves upped their lead to 4-1 in the sixth on RBI doubles by Scott Thorman and Andy Marte. Marte knocked in another run with a double in the eighth. Jonathan Schuerholz capped the scoring by chasing a run home with a fielders choice ground ball in the eighth. Lerew scattered four hits in six innings to earn the win. Childers tossed three innings of shutout relief to claim a save. Hens starter Jason Grilli took the loss. Marte went 4-4 with two doubles. Hessman had two hits for Toledo.

STARTERS SHINE: The five current members of the Braves starting pitching rotation (Kevin Barry, Kyle Davies, Adam Bernero, Chuck James, and Anthony Lerew) have allowed just 11 earned runs in their last 60.1 innings (eight starts, nine games) for a 1.64 ERA. The Braves have gone seven straight games without allowing a first inning run

THE NUMBER CRUNCH: Kerry Robinson has a eight game hitting streak (14-27 .519). Richmond is last in the IL in batting average, runs scored, home runs, strikeouts by pitchers, and walks issued. J.C Boscan's four game RBI streak ended last night. Esix Snead has hits in four straight games (7-17 .412). Scott Thorman is seven for his last 11 with five RBI.

THE ROSTER: C Brayan Pena has been re-assigned by Atlanta. He is 4-30 (.133) in three stints in Atlanta. He is hitting .323 with Richmond. Atlanta has designated RHP Jim Brower for assignment. He is expected to join the R-Braves Tuesday. The Braves roster is now 24 (11 pitchers, three catchers, six infielders, and four outfielders; four players are on the DL). The Braves have made 114 roster moves this season and lost 358 man-games to the disabled list. The Braves have used a total of 50 players this season.

GO THIEF: Esix Snead leads the IL in stolen bases. Snead's 46 stolen bases are tied for seventh best in R-Braves history. Only three R-Braves (Ed Miller, Ralph Garr, and Albert Hall) have stolen more than 50 in a season. Snead is trying to become the third player in IL history to lead the league in steals three straight years. The other two also played in Richmond (Len Johnston of the Virginians who did it 1956-58 and former R-Brave Ed Miller who did it 1978-80). Kerry Robinson led the Pacific Coast League in stolen bases when he joined the Braves June 22. Robinson's combined 36 steals is tied for fourth best in Triple-A.
