TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons face the Norfolk Tides in the finale of their four-game set from Harbor Park (7:15 p.m.). The Herd leads the series 2-1 after a wild 6-4 win in 11 innings last night. Tonight's game will wrap up the Bisons eight-game road trip over which the team has gone 4-3. Looking to close out the trip on back-to-back wins, Buffalo will turn to RHP Steve Watkins. Watkins, who has split his 28 appearances this year between starting and the bullpen, is 5-0 with a 4.03ERA in his last eight starts. Watkins will be up against RHP Yusmeiro Petit. The Mets #2 prospect by Baseball America, Petit will be making his Triple-A debut tonight. He was 9-3 with a 2.91ERA in 21 starts with Double-A Binghamton this season.
CLUTCH TWICE: Ryan Ludwick came up huge for the Bisons on two occasions last night. First, he doubled home the go-ahead run in the 10th inning. Then after Norfolk tied the game at four, he picked up a two-out RBI-single in the 11th that won the game for the Herd. Since coming off the DL on Friday, Ludwick is 4-9 (.444) with a double, a home run and three RBI.
KEEPING IT IN PLAY: The Bisons pitching staff has given up just one home run in 62 innings of work this road trip and none in their last 44 innings pitched. The only opponent to homer was Richmond's James Jurries in the 1st inning on Wednesday. In fact, the Bisons have allowed just eight extra-base hits (7 2B, 1HR) in the seven games this road trip.
HEATING UP: Catcher Dusty Wathan, who turns 32 years-old today, has four multi-hit performances in his last eight games. Overall, Wathan has hit .385 (10-26) over the span, with a double, five RBI, three walks and one run scored.
THE HITS KEEP COMING: Chalk up two more hits for Ryan Garko last night, his 10th multi-hit game already this month. Since July 1, Garko has averaged .354 (56-158) with nine doubles, five home runs, 23RBI and 21 runs scored in 44 games. The two times on base also raised his on-base percentage to .380, which is 7th in the International League.
ROSTER MOVES: Outfielder Jason Dubois and LHP Chris Cooper have joined the Herd today. Dubois was optioned down from Cleveland after a four-game stint with the Tribe (2-12, R). Cooper comes up from Double-A Akron after three games with the Aeros (1-0, 3.60ERA). To make room on the roster, infielder Jake Gautreau was placed on the disabled list.
